Production Journal: Week 6 - Half Way Point

We're finally at the point where we have as much time behind us as we do ahead of us. With just a matter if weeks left until the show, we're frantically trying to finish getting everything ready. For the next six weeks we'll focus on ironing out the glitches during rehearsals and getting all of the other behind the scenes preparations finished. 

Production Journal: Week Four - A Quick Look Behind the Scenes

As we're getting ready to head into our fifth week of rehearsals this week, it seemed appropriate to take a look at some of the different aspects that go into creating a production. Acting is just a tiny part of what brings a play to life. Everything that the audience sees on stage, that adds to the story has to be developed to fit and make sense with acting.

Production Journal: Week Three - The Things You'll Never Get to See, Hopefully

I love being able to work with my theater group. It's such an amazing opportunity to work with these kids and get to be able to put together this production. Believe it or not, the production doesn't start off being a seamless show in which everyone knows their lines, their blocking and does it effortlessly with the perfect emotion and expression. That's absolutely shocking, isn't it?!?!

Production Journal: Week Two - Blocking and Stage Fighting

Here we are with our second rehearsal behind us and things are beginning to take shape! I can't even begin to say how excited I am about how well things are going thus far. Starting this week we are focusing on blocking. Blocking is the specific movements during each scene; where the actors move on stage and the actions that bring the story together. The blocking in a scene is anything from a characters entrances and exits, to the usage of props and, something we began focusing on this week, stage fighting.

The time has come, once again, for our theater group to begin preparing for our fall production. I love this time of the year. Rehearsals are just beginning and this is when the creativity begins to be unleashed.
